Please read the information below carefully when considering getting your invitations printed on the letterpress. This will help you ask educated questions and possibly save us from answering the same ones for each client. Thank you!
If you’re curious about what affects wedding invitation pricing, as well as the average cost of wedding invitations, years of experience have shown that in general our clients end up paying between $350 and $700 for their invitations including design, paper, printing, envelopes, shipping and taxes. We have worked out a really basic spread of pricing below, for a more accurate price please contact us for more info. If, however, your budget is $150 we probably won’t be able to help you. We don’t take on many wedding projects these days so please inform yourself a bit about what’s involved in letterpress invitations so we can all be efficient and create you the best possible product for the best possible price.
Feel the Love. Feel the paper…
Our pricing is based on the use of Cranes Lettra or French Papers. Other papers are available by special order. Please call or email for options and estimates on other papers, envelopes, and packaging options. Cranes and French papers are both extremely high quality, environmentally friendly papers from responsible sources. We stock both French and Cranes papers in a variety of suitable colours such as white, cream, and kraft brown with matching A2 and A7 envelopes. Other colours are definitely available by special order. We’d be happy to send you a sample of our stock papers to help you pick.
We can set your invitations with vintage metal and wooden type, graphics and borders. We have over 250 different fonts available to us, and can likely find something that works for your tastes and wedding style. We love to print this way. If you are the kind of person who loves to be surprised (in a good way) by things, this is a great option for you. Because the design process for hand-setting type is integrated into the printing production process, there is no additional fee. When we’re done you will receive a 1-colour proof to make sure we’ve spelled everything correctly. Any design changes made from the proof will require re-setting and re-proofing, and therefore will incur extra costs. We work very carefully with you before we start to make sure we know what you like and what styles you prefer.
The Small Print
Timelines can vary quite a bit. A simple project can be turned around in 10-14 business days. More complex projects that require custom dies, unique paper, or multiple colours can take 3-12 weeks to finish. Designing your perfect invitation can also add to the time. What you don’t want to do is rush this important aspect of your wedding. When you get your quote, and place your order, we can give you a more exact turnaround time. We do our best to work with people to get their invitations out in time, but please don’t wait until the last minute to order them.
We mix our ink by hand. We use Pantone PMS system as a reference for our mixing, so if you have a colour you want you can let us know the PMS number and we’ll mix it as close as we can (we’re pretty good at it by now) but we cannot guarantee a match. Inherent in letterpress printing is a wide range of colour variance depending on ink flow, coverage, and what kind of graphics you have on your invitations. Solid colour blocks will show paper texture and potentially some ‘ghosting’ of graphics depending on how they are designed.
Solid Colours & Floods:
If you want to cover the entire side of your invitations with a solid colour, we can do it, but it’s not the strength of letterpress. It would be better to pick a colour paper or design your graphics to use less coverage. Large areas of solid colours areas will require more attention from the press-person, and therefore will cost more to accomplish. Additionally larger variances of colour and/or coverage should be expected with this kind of coverage. Lighter or more transparent inks will multiply the effect and cause colours to mismatch in extreme cases. Call us to discuss the particulars of your design.
We are committed to providing you with a high-quality and unique product. If you are not satisfied in any way with the materials and/or workmanship please call us, we’d love to chat with you about how we can make it right. We will NOT warranty any product based on colour, texture, impression, or effects that are inherent in the letterpress process. We print each one of your invitations by hand, and hand-made things can have slight variations in alignment, colour, tone, shape and other ways. We feel this is what makes them beautiful. This is one thing that computers will never do well: create unique variations.
We require a 50% deposit on all custom work. This allows us to order paper and supplies to complete your order. The deposit is refundable minus the $100 non-refundable retainer*. If we have already ordered your paper, polymer plates, or any other supplies, or started cutting or printing your order, the 50% deposit becomes non-refundable in its entirety. The balance of the price, plus any additional shipping costs, design fees or upgrades must be paid before the product is picked up or shipped. We accept all forms of payment including Visa, MC, AmEx, Paypal, eTransfer, Cash, Cheque, Porsches and Gold Bullion. AmEx and Paypal will incur extra processing fees of 3-5%. Sorry.
* The Retainer is used as a way to predict, book, order, and price our time. The reason it is non-refundable is because we have turned away other projects to hold your spot. If you don’t want your spot anymore, we have no problems cancelling it. The $100 retainer allows us to articulate the necessary processes required to fill your spot.
Our prices are partially dependent on paper and supplies from the USA and other countries. Cost of bringing in fancy papers can change drastically with exchange rates and fuel costs. Therefore, our prices are subject to change without notice.
